You knew it was gonna be a close game in the Championship Game. These two teams know each other well and had been the best two teams all season beating al other challengers. Each team had only lost 1 game... to each other in a split of the season series. It was the match-up we all were waiting for. For 6 innings, the game lived up to the hype. Although the Ice Cold Pitchers led the whole way, it was very close through 6. Timely hits by Zach among others had given the Ice Cold Pitchers a 5-4 lead going into the top of the 7th. That's when it was broken wide open. A hit parade brought across 9 runs in the top of the 7th and broke open a close game as the Ice Cold Pitchers claimed the title with a 14-4 victory over How YOU Doin? As always, both teams had fun and showed great sportsmanship and a friendship with each other that few games have. Congratulations to both teams on a great season!
I'm going to be very honest... I forgot to get a Player of the Week for this Championship Game. I was all over the Player of the Game as Zach with his several crucial hits... but kinda forgot I needed a Player of the Week for one game for which I already chose a Player of the Game for. So I'm guessing as to what the name of the person I have in mind for the POTW is. I'm putting Sarah even though, realistically, I have no idea if that is this person's name. The POTW is the girl that always comes up with the creative cheers for her team every week and who's season-long goal was to hit a foul ball that hit the light post... which was achieved in this game. Her cheers always make me chuckle behind the plate as cheers I've never heard in all my years around the games of baseball and softball. She's always having a good time out there win or lose and, moreover, she's making a better time for everyone else out there... which is what the true spirit of Underdog is all about. So congratulations whatever your name is... you're the Player of the Week.
In a game that everybody expected to be another close one between two solid teams, it couldn't have been much tighter. Rob's big hits and relief pitching made all the difference, as Ice Cold Pitchers stopped Bats Hit Crazy! on their way to the Championship game, 14-13. Rob's three run HR and shutdown pitching capped the victory in another hard-fought battle between two of the best teams at Montavilla.
Sean Clark was seemingly everywhere on Thursday night -- getting a hit every time at bat atop the order, playing a solid shortstop position and even coming in for some scoreless relief pitching. Through his efforts, Ice Cold Pitchers were able to fend off the always tough Bats Hit Crazy! team for yet another big win heading into the Postseason.
Sean brings more than a quick bat to the field. He brings his chatter box to the field all game long. He pumps up his team as well as getting some chuckles from the other bench. Sean gets what Underdog is all about and makes it fun for everybody else!
On a soggy evening at Montavilla, Ice Cold Pitchers lived up to their name in a defeat of The Pancake Batters. There is more to their team than pitching however, as Caryn Berley demonstrated -- on base all six times that she came to the plate. This was along with some solid defensive play on damp field conditions. Well done, Caryn & Ice Cold Pitchers!
