Entering the Championship game with a record of 7-0 and having never lost as a team, Blue Balls seemed destine for a league title, unless No Limit got in their way. No Limit, a squad led by the likes of team captain Everett DeVan, big kicker Eric Snow-man, and emotional leader Richie Delafuente, showed at times throughout the season that they could scrap it out with the best of 'em. But on Sunday, they had no answer for the steady Blue Balls, who showed that defense (combined with a solid offense) truly wins championships. After allowing an average of only 3 runs against (and keeping pitcher Vibol Bou's ERA the lowest in the league among starting pitchers) per game over the entire season, Blue Balls one upped themselves by "limiting" No Limit to only 1 run, winning 9-1 in the biggest kickball match of the teams young career. Good Luck @ Brooklyn during the Fall!
Although the championship victory was a total team effort, Dave exemplified exactly what Blue Balls was all about this week; smothering defense. With 1 out in the bottom of the 7th, Ross from No Limit sent a scorcher down the 3rd base line, only to see Dave come out of nowhere to making a diving catch on to the Gabriel Park outfield, and basically sealing the league title for Blue Balls.
Julia was a gamer all the way this week. She did it all on defense and at the plate as well. Her intoxicating presence was on display for both teams to admire. Although she was not actually intoxicated by any substance, she showed great enthusiasm on and off the field. Great effort Julia!
This weeks POTW has to go to the Blue Balls Jason Howard. Not only was Jason instrumental in the teams victory, but he also showed his strength, power, and overall ability to destroy things. Facing a fastball right over the plate, Jason wound up for a massive swing only to send the ball off his foot with a gaping hole in the seams, which could be equated to ripping the cover off the ball ala Roy Hobbs (who some know as Robert Redford) in "The Natural" For those who were fortunate to see the event, it will stand tall in Underdog Kickball @ Gabriel Park history.
It was quite an impressive day for Blue Balls on Sunday. In their first week fielding a team in Underdog Sports, Blue Balls managed to win both games of their double header in impressive fashion to get them off to a 2-0 start in the league. Barrett was a huge contributor in the wins, providing a Home Run in the first match while consistently being a defensive machine behind home plate during both.
