After weeks off due to snow, nobody was sure how the payoffs would shake out this week. All the teams were feeling rusty and unsure, tensly awaiting what would turn out to be a night like no other.
In a tough first round, both Scrubs and Baby Punchers eked out victories against their respective opponents (THRUST and The Bowled and the Beautiful) by a slim margin of about 30 points. These close games foreshadowed what was to come in what will be known as the tie-breaker of a lifetime.
Scrubs came out strong with big scores from Tom and Gina, but Baby Punchers answered with big scores from Matt and Lacie. When the last pin was counted, the score was tied at 535 pins each, forcing a tie-breaker.
In the tie-breaking round, each team selected one player to face-off in a sudden death, winner-take-all single frame. Scrubs chose Tom, their top player of the night with a high score of 182; Baby Punchers chose Kevin, who was feeling shaky after not bowling a single strike that night. Tom bowled first and hit 7 pins. Under a hushed silence of a tense crowd, Kevin was able to bowl his first strike for the night and win it all for the Baby Punchers! Congratulations!!
Kudos are also due to Reply to All for handily winning the No-Tap competition. And a special shout out to The Bowled and the Beautiful, who won the Spirit Award by a very slim margin of one ticket! You guys rock!
Kevin has proven himself as a true team player throughout the whole season, but his Underdog spirit really shone though this week. Always hanging back in a supportive role, Kevin always provided encouragement to his teammates in tough matched. In this week's tie-braker for the championship, when the stakes were high, The Baby Punchers chose Kevin for the face-off. This time, it was the rest of the team that stood strong to support Kevin- and he came through for the team, bowling a strike to win it all. Nice one, Kevin!
Kevin stole the show this week with a turkey dance so authentic, so poetic, and so phenomenal that we actually could taste Thanksgiving leftovers in our mouth. The only thing better than seeing Kevin prance around like a turkey would be to see him prance around twice- and we did. Only one question remains: can we get some gravy with that turkey shake?
Still running hot with post-election fever, Annie showed up to the first night of Big Turkey Bowling with an Obama hat that ALSO doubled as a U of O hat. Two things we love together at last- it's like peanut butter and chocolate. Annie, this week UD tips OUR hat to YOU.
