Notes

First Place

Summer Co-ed Rookie Kickball Mon/Wed at Lillis Albina Park

Peg You in The Head showed up with something to prove against Merino Ballbreakahs, who up until now were undefeated. Doug was as solid as he's been all season being their rock on both offense and defense while Dan showed up with yet another very solid game. But it was Paul with his defense along with Will making a spectacular catch at 2nd that kept Merino's offense at bay. On offense Caitlin was the game-changer with a two RBI at bat that secured the win for Peg You in The Head. Merino however didn't lie down and roll over in the final. They had a very solid game but just came up a bit short on the offensive side today but Lucas tried to make a late-game charge with a solo home-run but it wasn't quite enough.

In the third place game, Consonus Balls and Dolls tried to do what they could to take the lead but Ruthless State held them off to earn a 3rd place finish. Chris Murphy followed up his first inning strike-out with a solid kick later in the game that ended up scoring a few runners while Eric started the game with a statement making Grand Slam! John made a ton of great plays at 1st base while Leah did all she could just to stay on her feet!

Overall it was a great day for some kickball even with the thousands of gnats swarming the entire field and giving a few players some snacks while trying to make a play on the ball! Great season to all and we hope to see you out there very shortly!

POTW: Mary Beebe

Peg You in The Head

Mary is this week's POTW for her amazing defense and awesome hands at third base. No matter what kick came her way she was a magnet for the ball. Line drives, pop-ups, grounders, they all were no problem for her. She played with awesome spirit and demonstrated her enthusiasm for playoff kickball! Great game Mary!

POTW: Paul Van Gasse

Peg You in The Head

This was Paul's MVP game hands down! In one of the most spectacular plays I've ever seen in Underdog Kickball, Paul came up big. With a soft line-drive/blooper that looked like it was sure to fall behind Will at third base and in front of Paul in left field they combined to make the catch and prevent another base-runner. As the ball was kicked Will knew he might be in trouble and started back-peddling from third base and made a last ditch effort to try to catch the ball. He leaped up and with arms stretched behind him and his legs flying up into the air he just managed to tip the ball enough for Paul to do his thing. Running in from left field Paul hesitated for a moment when he saw Will tip the ball and with amazingly quick reflexes he made a diving catch of his own just before the ball was able to make it to the ground. I will admit that writing doesn't do this play justice as you really had to see it to appreciate the difficulty and awesomeness of this play! Congrats Will and Paul on your teamwork! Oh yeah, did I mention Paul also had a home-run in this game? Definitely worthy of Player of the Week this week!
