Week after week, Hot Mess shows why they have the most fun out there on the field. From rainbow colored knee socks to a Mad Hatter-esque costume, Hot Mess plays kickball the way its supposed to be played, with as much fun as possible. Not even a potentially devastating outfield collision can quell the good vibes of Hot Mess.
Was it me or did people make the 4th of July weekend a full week of partying? I’m not sure if I have ever seen so many people hung over or teams playing short in my refereeing career. It was amazing for me to see so many people get so excited to actually
sit on the bench.
One person that must have taken a few days off of the bottle was Taylor Mathes of Team Hot Mess. Not only did he play a stellar game in the driving mist for his team, but he also was a substitute for We Always Get to 3rd Base.
This guy was on fire in the outfield and had a great kicking game to match. On four separate occasions, Taylor made a diving catch for an out. Additionally, the ball was caked in mud and was slicker than snot. For his endless smile and agile sliding skills, Taylor Mathes has earned The Player of the Week.
Welcome to those teams that are playing at Colonel Summers Park for the Summer session. 14 teams started the season on Sunday. We have a few returning teams and many more newcomers to welcome to the league.
You would expect that a veteran would take the first weeks player of the game but oh how the tides have turned. The last game of the day brought together the leagues only Indy Team: Hot Mess.
You never know what type of team Indy's will manage to turn into but everyone showed up with a focus and desire to make this a successful season. Hot Mess started the game with three quick scores and continued their hot kicking into the 4th where they totaled 14 scores.
At one point, the team captain Kevin Clover made a miraculous play from the pitcher's mound. A short bunt trickled out of the box and the kicker took off towards 1st. Just as the player approached 1st, Kevin kicked a laser and the sure handed 1st basemen caught it for an out.
This is just one example of the type of 'never give up' attitude that could help a large group of individuals become a team to be reckoned with. Congratulations on your 1st win.
