Coming into the finals, both Set Issues and The Sandy Vs were ready for a showdown. Both teams have strong skills, and The Sandy Vs were coming off a late season surge and ready to finish it off. However, Set Issues weren’t going to go down easily. In the first set, both teams had good flow, setting themselves up well at the net. They stayed even until 7s, and then 13s. Then, Set Issues started pulling away, keeping their game steady and taking advantage of a few mis-hits from the Sandy Vs. That earned them their first win, 21-16. In the second set, the teams again stayed even through 6s, 8s, 10s, and then the Sandy Vs started getting in their groove. Set Issues showcased their skills at the net and solid passes, but The Sandy Vs came back with big hits by Cameron, and great serves by Jack. The Vs pulled the second set out to even the score to 1-1. In the third and final set, the two teams put it all on the line and played their games. Patrick brought the enthusiasm for the Sandy Vs, assisted with great passes from Ashley and big saves by Cristie. However, Set Issues kept playing their consistent game with Andrew’s tricky tips and Sam’s great serves. Their consistent skills and great team chemistry brought them the extra distance and they won the third set 21-12. Congrats Set Issues, our Softcore Champions!
Andrew is what you would call a position player. He has a very specific and efficient skill set for Underdog volleyball. He first uses his easy going nature to lull opponents into a false sense of security. Then, he posts up at the net and manages to tip the ball just past the fingertips of the other team... every time. This skill, combined with insanely consistent serves makes Andrew our POTW! Keep it up!
