The competition was high tonight at Gabriel Park. The Wednesday night sand league was coming to and end and all of the teams that made it to the semi finals were there with something to prove. Block Party had Notorious DIG in the first round on court 1 while Mind Games took on Bumpin Uglies. Both matches went to a third game as each team played their heart out and left it all on the court.
On Court 1, Notorious took a tough game one that was back and forth until some consistent serving on the part of Ashley took place. But the 3 Block Party members game came to win game 2. Both teams fought for game three but by 2 points Nototrious took the match.
On Court 2, Bumpin Uglies and Mind Games also battled out games 1 and two and going into the third game the sprinkles started coming. They cooled the teams off enough to go one extra point but Bumpin Uglies sent one out of bounds to give Mind Games to 22-20 win and bid to the Championship Game.
Both Mind Games and Notorious had to fight for their place in the final game which would only be tougher. Mind games came out strong as they got a few extra minutes to rest before the games. The first game went to them by way of 21-17. But Notorious regained that competitive streak and Ashley again had a serving streak to win game to without a doubt 21-6.
As the rain picked up and damped the players down in the muggy heat, the third game was well underway. The first 10 points were swapped and then Notorious was done messing around and took a 7 point lead. Mind games worked their way back but Notorious was out to win and that they did. With a final score in game three of 21-15, Notorious became our Gabriel Park Wednesday Night CHAMPIONS!
Great season to both teams and all of those teams that joined us this season! See you when the sun returns to Oregon next year!
Player of the Week wasn't an easy choice this week as the entire championship winning Notorious DIG gave it their all. But they had one player serve them into a few game vicoutries this week. Ashley W. served it up tonight. With multiple 7 plus serving streaks she helped her team get the lead, keep the lead and REGAIN the lead when needed. Her team cheered her on each and every point. Not to mention, Mind Games backed up a few times and sucked it up to pass her hard hitting. Great job tonight Ashley, way to lead your team to vicotory!
This week's team of the week is awarded to Notorious D.I.G. Two recipes for success for this team: Watermelon and Serving. The juice was essential to Notorious D.I.G's victorious match up this week, and provided the necessary hydration to survive the dirt courts. Let's not forget to mention the incredible serving this team showcased this week from top to bottom! No corner was left untouched by these guys. Thanks for coming to rally this week Notorious D.I.G, and bring your "A" game next week for the playoffs!
