The Ball Handlers were new to Underdog last season but they learned alot over the winter and were ready for their chance to take home a championship. They came, they saw and tonight they conquered.
The first round of the night they took on our only remaining Indy Team from the season in the semi Finals. Indy #15 put up a great fight but it wasn't enough for the determined Ball Handlers. After winning in two they stayed warm awaiting the winner of a 3 game match between Just the Tip and Get it Up. Just the Tip earned the right to defend their title in the championship round against the Ball Handlers.
All eyes were on this game that was center stage at 9 PM. A little time off the court proved to be good for the Ball Handlers as they came out and proved why they were in the championship with a commanding 12 point win.
But Just the Tip wouldn't go down without a fight. Some well placed tips by Bree and some great serving by Ryan and Just the Tip put together a rally that equated to 60 total serves for the game by both teams. But the Ball Handlers were ready to put their name in the Underdog Championship History book and they put together a 3 point swing to finish the second game off 31-29.
It was a great match by both teams. Congrats Ball Handlers, we will see you in the fall to defend your title!
Cory C was our hands down player of the week for our Championship Night! Cory came ready to lead his team to victory tonight and that he did. He stayed calm cool and collected during the most nerve racking rally of the night. His net play helped his team swing back into the lead on multiple occasions. He willingness to hand out high fives to all of his teammates after every play shows he's got the Underdog Spirit going even when the night is all about winning!
Great job Cory and all of the Ball Handlers. Cant wait to see you back in action next fall!
