Summer Co-ed Sand Volleyball at Eastmoreland Courts Wednesdays

USL welcomes Spike It Or Not to Wednesday Sand VB at Eastmoreland and also is excited to bestow POTW honors to Spike player Mike Betzel! He came armed with a great attitude, skills, effort and rocked the bright green bandana so those attributes could easily stand out. While Spike lost all three sets to Let's Talk About Sets, Mike inspired his teammates to give it all they had by crashing the net for blocks and a lot of serious dig power. Mike plays for the love of the game and his tenaciousness is his best asset!

Where do we even begin with Brian?! He was unstoppable tonight! His humble attitude matched with his practically flawless night of volleyball landed him as our Player of the Week! He was all over the court tonight. Not only did he have some great plays at the net, he was serving up some incredible digs from the back row. His skills helped lead his team to 3-0 victory. Congrats to our POTW, Brian! It was a pleasure to watch you play! You were awesome!

Sub? Who needs a sub??? That's what we often hear on Wednesday AND Thursday nights at Eastmoreland because Nora Wood is on the sand courts itchin' to play more volleyball than anyone on the planet! Nora's regular team is Purple Reign, but she often comes early and stays late to fill in wherever a sub is needed on another team when Purple Reign isn't playing. Nora's dedication and skill at the sport is second to none - she's a body sacrificer and deep digger and her setting is unbelievable. Nora makes everyone else around her better and her determination has brought great success to not only Purple Reign but many other teams she's subbed on. Wednesday her subbing skills were needed on Volley Lama and while they lost the match 3-0 to Sandfish, Nora's enthusiasm and hard work were contagious and gave everybody new energy. Nora is this summer's Ultimate Sub at Eastmoreland!!

She may be small in stature, but Melanie McCaffrey is big on volleyball talent! With Notorious D.I.G. in a semi final game vs. Ball Me Maybe, Melanie took her team moniker to heart and set about digging her way through so many tough defensive plays. Using either one or both hands and flinging herself across court to save any kill she could, Melanie was as hard-working as we've ever seen. In addition to her huge efforts in the sand to dig up saves wherever possible, she also delivered some pretty sweet serves. While ND wasn't able to come out victorious and land in the finals, their efforts were rock solid with the added bonus of Melanie's great work! Nice season you all!
