Another fantastic finish Wednesday night in the Underdog Friendly House Dodgeball League. In this hotly contested playoffs many teams turned up their play to push for a very close finish.
In the first round Balls of Fury led by the fierce play of Matt Turk & Deanna Foster slipped by a feisty I'd Hit That team. Adam Fagan also added some leadership getting the team to throw together, and using his accurate arm to secure key wins. The Fury's well timed throws and catches proved too much and got them to a semi final match with Live Free or Die Awesome.
Other first round action included Debbie Does Dodgeball competing against The Dodgefathers in a very well played game. Marshall Bradley went on a monster run throwing laser shots and keeping his team at full strength with some great catches. Josh Leslie also provided key firepower with his sinkerball and nifty dodging. Becky Dougan & Sean Evans also played well for the The Dodgefathers but it wasn't quite enough to overthrow Debbie.
Live Free or Die Awesome found themselves in a semi final match against a veteran Balls of Fury team. Kayla Kuretich picked up her play immediately unleashing her unbelievable arm and making key catches. Live Free continued to keep their foot on the pedal with their excellent team play timely counter throws. Katie Osborn & Maurice Davis also made great catches to get their teammates back into the action, and into the Championship Game.
In the other semi-final match Debbie Does Dodgeball faced the improving Ball Busters squad. Debbie jumped out to an early lead, but couldn't keep it going seemingly running out of energy. Most of this was due to the solid play by the Ball Busters. Katharina Lippman's accurate throws found their way through ball blocks connecting with arms and legs. Geoff Weston also had a steady all around game, making some key throws and catches, pushing his team into the final against Live Free or Die Awesome.
Save the Best for Last would accurately describe the Friendly House Spring League championship game. Ball Busters continued their hot play from the start with Emily Hatcher & Eddie Eiland making great throws on key players giving them a numbers advantage. Katharina Lippman also did a great job with ball control keeping errant Live Free throws on her teams side of the court. This stellar play gave them 3 straight wins with eight minutes remaining. But that is where Live Free or Die Awesome didn't die at all, they dug down and started to play Awesome. The throws that weren't connecting early in the game found bodies. Katie Osborne made some great catches to even out the numbers and get their first win. Kayla Kuretich also began to catch fire connecting on a wide array of throws including a 1 vs. 3 victory. Live Free continued to keep their foot on the pedal with Brad Bush giving a clinic on staying inbounds and making difficult catches. His sinker ball had great velocity and excellent downward movement finding shoe tops and shins. Live Free or Die Awesome won the last 4 games to give them another Underdog Dodgeball Championship. Congrats Team!
In our consolation bracket Moose Knuckles defeated Beiber Fever in another roller coaster game. Similar to the previous game Beiber Fever jumped out to a quick 3 to 1 lead, led by captain Shad Woodworth's great throws and dodges. Moose Knuckle started to make a run of wins due to both Carlos Hernandez & Nikki Frittz's contagious energy. This match also included an epic 8th game that included a 1 on 3 effort from Beiber Fever's John Lamar that tied the game for Beiber at 4. But in the final game, Moose Knuckle struck quickly with accurate throws made by Jason Grimes and two catches that put the game out of reach for Beiber Fever.
