Death From Above, Falco's Army
Tom Pomeroy
Tom Pomeroy
Huevos Grandes
This weeks POTW was really an easy selection. Tom Pomeroy subbed in for Pabst Smear to and pitched the entire game before logging 5 of 7 frames in his scheduled contest with Huevos Grandes. In each game he channeled his inner Roy Halladay and did nothing but pound the strike zone--even when he missed it was not by much. However, on this day it was his off the field credentials that sewed up they highly desired POTW honors. Tom was rumored to be celebrating a 40th birthday (which he later denied), but also brought a dog to the park that could catch a frisbee in mid air, and that's the type of fun we like to see at Underdog!

Relief from the Heat
A secret weapon was once again displayed by Huevos Grandes in their 14-7 victory on a sun drenched field at Irving Park on Sunday. Taking over for an exhausted Tom Pomeroy in the 5th inning, Sabrina stepped onto the mound focused and determined to throw strikes from her first warm up pitch. Her command of the strike zone was amazing, along with her "matching" socks and tank top...the amount of stripes and colors were an inspiration to her teammates yet a distraction to the opposing batters, keeping 'em guessing throughout her relief appearance. Many strikes were thrown, while very few of the umpire's calls were questioned...a pleasant surprise from someone who wants to believe all of her pitches are strikes. Great job Sabrina...you're a fine example of what makes Underdog Softball the best league in Portland.

Lexi Graybell
Pabst Smear
A day when your antics, performance, and/or quality of play earn you a nickname should be commemorated. As such, the day when Lexi Graybell became Lexi "The Freight-Train" Graybell is being commemorated by honoring her as the player of the week! Her teammates described her day at the plate and skills behind the plate as "the biggest day of her life." Lexi only smiles and says, "Get off the tracks, a freight train is comin' through!" Congrats Freight Train, you're this weeks Player of the Week!

Vanessa Lee
Vanessa Lee
Huevos Grandes
This weeks POTW brought more than just great play to the park. In addition to her mystifying range in the outfield and solid work at the plate, Vanessa Lee brought a birthday cheering section to Irving Park with the might of ten-thousand voices. As a founding huevo Vanessa is quite popular at the friendly confines of Irving Park, but now we know that her birthday brings a crowd too! Great play alone won't always garner a POTW award, but as Jedi Master Yoda might say, "Great play and a full blown birthday party an Underdog POTW makes."

Pabst Smear
Here at Underdog you can earn a POTW award for all sorts of reasons. Part of the reason generally involves some sort of stellar play in the field or at the plate. This week is no different. Samantha B is a more than reliable infielder for Pabst Smear and is no slouch at the plate. However, this week, she just happened to be in the "right" place at the "right" time. You see, Samantha "Takin' it in the B" B. is the player of the week for taking a softball right in the B! Samantha bravely reached down to grab a frosty adult beverage from a cooler positioned right in front of the dugout entrance... at that very moment an errant throw from the other team flew right in the dugout... and the rest is history! A few laughs, and hearty swig from the wide mouth can (for wide open refreshment!) and you have our player of the week!

BAM
To say Jeff is just another member of BAM's pitching staff is a major understatement. Throughout the entire spring season at Irving Park, Jeff has been an extremely reliable and effective relief pitcher for Team BAM...often times working on as little as six days rest. Consistent, pinpoint, overpowering and deceptive...all appropriate words to describe his performance against Death from Above on Sunday. Even helped out his own cause with a nice home run to top off the day. Great work Jeff...good luck to you and your team in the remainder of the playoffs!
