Summer Softcore Co-ed Kickball at Irving Park - TU/TH

Its rare that someone who doesn't play and isn't old enough to remember Clinton wins the Player of the Week, but this week was this boys time to shine. I am sure that he plays kickball in his elementary school on a regular basis because there was noone better at cheering on his dad and his dad's team. From running on to the field during the sixth inning to high-fiving after the game there was no better sport even if he didn't play

Sometimes its just too hot for kickball. That's what carlos told his ump and catcher on the way to the plate already 3 for 3 on the day. Fortunately I couldn't tell the heat made any difference. The most impressive part of his game by far was a line drive face catch that can only be described as wild. Fortunately he didn't get hurt, b/c he must have stretched out his face before the game.

So it's bottom of the 8th, extra innings, score is tied, runners on base, with two outs. What do you do hotshot? Throw up? Beg for a pinch kicker? Cry?!

Well maybe us mere mortals, but not our player of the week, Haley Dulong. Instead she pulled something straight out of the movie Major League. Remember when Jake Taylor calls his shot to left field and then bunts instead (for those of you scratching your head, go rent this movie immediately). Well this was the opposite. Instead, when the short stop came up and the outfield moved in she drove it right through the gap. You could hear the catcher swear under his breath knowing they just got fooled. The winning run ran across the plate and Hayley beat the throw to first.

Congrats Hayley in getting your team to the next round and on being a stellar Underdog!

Our player of the week just so happens to be the captain of a team of great players. It was hard to choose a player of the week from a team that was full of people who played their hearts out to come back from a 5 run deficit against a team that has made a living off of last minute come backs all year. But come back they did, led by Dani in what was described by the packed bleachers as "One of the best kickball games ever."
