Yen-Chyi Liu
Yen-Chyi Liu
Indy Team #V63
Yen-Chyi Liu of Indy Team #63 (soon to be known as All About the Ace) is our first late fall Thursday night Tubman league POTW. Yen-Chyi led his squad throughout all three sets with spectacular kills - so many that your reporter here lost track. While his kill-fest was unbelievable, Yen-Chyi also fought hard for impossible digs. Indy Team #63 dominated the first set 25-13, but League Night fought back to grab the second. Yen-Chyi's teammates set up some terrific assists so that he could continue his dominate performance in kills and the result was a 25-21 win in the third set to take the match. We're looking forward to a fun season watching the leaping ability of Yen-Chyi!

Hayden Todd
Hayden Todd
Big Pink
Hayden has something special. Her hands are like down pillows, like a babby's bottom....so soft, when she sets the ball...it's completely silent. For a brief moment in time, the ball becomes part of her hands only to be quickly and cleanly sent skyward with no spin at the perfect height for the attacker to have their way. After each perfect set, Hayden did a little setters dance to celebrate. You are the player of the week!

Hannah Eggert
Hannah Eggert
Unprotected Sets
Supergirl Hannah Eggert must have eaten a big bowl of Wheaties for breakfast (or maybe dinner) this week because she came to Tubman on Thursday night with kryptonite in her veins. Faster than a bullet and more powerful than a speeding train were Hannah's serves. At one point in the match, Hannah racked up 8 or 9 consecutive points, leaving her opponents stunned and mystified as to how to stop the barrage. It would have been fun to have a radar gun to clock the velocity and speed of her serves, but I digress...Hannah was also using her firepower with a fantastic kill shot to add to an outstanding performance. Congrats Hannah!

Anna Kurnizki
Anna Kurnizki
League Night
If there is a "perfect game" in volleyball as there is in baseball, then Anna Kurnizki would be credited for such in League Night's game on Thursday night at Tubman. Every serve, dig, block, assist and you name it was straight out of a volleyball playbook when Anna touched the ball. Her execution was flawless and she provided us with many astounding "wow" moments throughout each set, especially her patented one-handed lay out for successful saves time after time. She was on a mission to secure the win for League Night and not only came away with victory but USL's hearty congratulations on a job WELL DONE!

Patrick Yan
Patrick Yan
Unprotected Sets
Patrick Yan is the man! From the opening serve in game one vs. Sets on the Beach, you knew Patrick had one thing in mind - a three game sweep. He was dominate in every aspect of the match, serving up ace bombs, soaring for smokin' kills, and tips as soft as a baby's bum landing exactly where he pleased. Just when Sets on the Beach had other plans in Game 3 to gain ground and got a few points ahead, Patrick put a lid on that notion with blocks at the net to pick up points, get back on offense, and lead his teammates down the home stretch to victory. Job well done Patrick!

Katherine Chou
Katherine Chou
Unprotected Sets
A big tip 'o the USL hat to Unprotected Sets' Katherine Chou, who is our POTW for this Thursday night at Tubman! Unprotected Sets competed in an opening round tournament match vs. Sets on the Beach and Katherine played a huge role in her team's victory. She had an incredible court sense all night long - from keen service return in the back row, to clean and accurate setting from the front and mid. Her service never wavered and she gained countless points for her squad as they played some intense sets to ultimate victory in the quarterfinals.
Unprotected Sets then advanced to a semifinal match vs. Big Pink and Katherine saved plenty of energy to lead her team in powerful defense of a team (Big Pink) who had their sights set on a win. While Unprotected Sets lost the first set of the match, they fought back with the help of Katherine to cruise in the second. Ultimately, they couldn't overcome a big push by Big Pink in the third set who clinched the match and will advance. Katherine can be satisfied and proud, however, of the monumental effort both she and Unprotected Sets gave in these games and throughout the fall season at Tubman. Congrats!

Robert Moreno
Robert Moreno
Big Pink
The King of the Kill was in fine form in the Tubman Thursday night championship game vs. the Thundercougarfalconbirds and keyed big wins in the first and third sets for Big Pink. No matter where the ball is set at the net, Robert easily takes flight and soars above the net with such power that he delivered 10+ kills over three sets (there were so many we lost count...). With his fantastic athleticism, Robert has qualified for POTW many times throughout the late fall season, but USL staff decided to honor him with the award for the final game and victory as he saved some of his best play for last. Thanks for continuing to provide a weekly highlight reel for us Robert!
