The Underdog championships playoffs saw its fair share of spectacular plays and games. The first game got started off with a bang when Jaqylan Mcneill got a rally started for Balls Gone Wild in the bottom of the first. Balls Gone Wild scored five in the first and never looked back going wire to wire for the win over the gritty Slumdog Ballers.
As a reward for taking the first game Balls Gone Wild got the luxury of taking on the undefeated Booze on First for a chance to make the championship game. Balls Gone Wild took the momentum they received from the first game and carried it into the second game. Matching Booze on First, run for run throughout, but had the wind taken out of their sails after a diving catch with runners in scoring position with two outs by Danielle Jarmin. Booze on First thwarted a late rally and won the affair 14-13.
The third contest of the day featured two hot teams in Scared Hitless and League of Our Own. It was a one sided affair from start to fininsh with League of Our Own taking it to Scared Hitless early and often. Derek was the major contributer to the offense hitting two HRs, a triple, and seven RBIs. The final score was League of Our Own 18 and Scared Hitless 7.
League of Our Own continued their hitting ways tacking on another 17 runs in semi-final matchup. This time it was Dan who added a couple of HRs to League of Our Owns productive offense. Perfect Strangers just could not get anything going at the plate and fell 17-6.
The Championship included two offensive juggernauts in Booze on First and League of Our Own. The game looked all but over in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and Booze on First leading by two. But up came Joe and he blasted a HR to right field scoring the runner on first thus tying the game at 8 all. In the bottom of the eighth and a runner aboard, League of Our Own came through in fine fashion knocking a triple to score the runner from first and claim their first Underdog Championship at Montavilla.
Congrats League of Our On on a great season!
Derek was a force all his own for the League of Our Own offense contributing 14 RBIs and 4 HRs on the way to his teams championship win.
